Dynamic Movie Title
STCC // GAT-225 - Assignment #5
A fun mockup displaying the final static title.
The Dynamic Titles assignment challenged me to create an animated design/motion graphic for a movie title card that would also present well as a static screen. This was a fun process that pushed me to learn new skills in software I am less familiar with.
Original sketches
My two ideas originally were a water-themed design and a Western theme. I ultimately went with the Western because it was a little out of my comfort zone, and I thought that I could do more with it.
As I went further into the design process, I wanted to dive into the vintage Western look. I spent time searching for assets like film grains and fonts that fit the look I was going for.
Prototyping animation in Photoshop
To animate the motion graphic, I used Adobe Photoshop’s timeline tool, which (for video purposes) relies on keyframing rather than frame-by-frame animation. I learned a lot about masking in Photoshop through time in class and internet resources. Before I ended up at my final result, I created several versions, “prototypes” in some way.
The stock video did not have any audio originally, so I chose stock audio that fit with the pace of the scene.
